Abstract/Description: | Topics covered include the Thomas' feelings on the "non-violence" approach and his involvement in a Presbyterian discussion group. Thomas was born and raised in south central Alabama, and after serving in the military, went to college in West Virigina. He came to Durham in 1959 to work at North Carolina Mutual as a printer and in advertising/communications. He was involved in civil rights work in Alabama (where he helped drive people during the Montgomery Bus Boycott) and North Carolina (where he helped druve people going to sit-in demonstrations). He worked on many local political campaigns including those for Gene Hampton, Josephine Clement, Bill Bell and Willie Lovett. |
