C." on February 17, 1949, was "presented by friends and patrons" in 1949. In 1920, the first year of woman suffrage (although not yet ratified by North Carolina), Sallie Beavers had been one of the few women chosen as a delegate to the state convention by the Durham County Democratic party. |
