Fred and Lois Sweaney

Abstract/Description: Porch of the Sweaney House at 104 North Buchanan / 1120 West Main, with view beyond of West Main Street. This was once the home of Dr. John Lockhart Sweaney, MD (08 January 1858 - 23 March 1929) and his wife, Corinna Pinckney Day Sweaney (23 April 1863 - 06 June 1945). Their children were: Frederich Eric "Fred" Sweaney (01 August 1886 - 28 March 1969); Iola Bledsoe Sweaney (21 May 1888 - 26 June 1978) m. Arthur Eugene Langston (10 June 1896 - 21 July 1974); Ophelia Day Sweaney (14 January 1890 - 30 September 1890); Lois High Sweaney (10 July 1891 - 30 September 1989); Hunter McGuire Sweaney, MD (12 October 1893 - 04 August 1969) married Frances Leak Foushee (07 August 1908 - 25 April 1968); Elise Tobino Sweaney (02 January 1896 - 02 March 1920). These two unmarried children of Dr. John Sweaney, Fred and Lois , were the last members of the Sweaney family to live in the house until 1963. Fred owned a grocery store and Lois taught elementary school at Fuller School and later George Watts School.
