Abstract/Description: | The Durham Public Service Company not only operated Durham's transportation system, but furnished the city with ice and electricity. There was also a downtown store selling electrical appliances for the home. Duke Power Company later took over the electrical and transportation facilities. Public Service Company of North Carolina is the name now used by the distributor of natural gas for the city. The building was built in 1902 on the north side of East Main Street in the 600 block. |
