Abstract/Description: | Amos Goodloe is listed as a grocer on Peabody Street, near Mangum, in the 1889 Durham directory. He is buried in the Geer cemetery. He and his sister, Mariah (1871-1959) who married Joseph Bynum, were the children of Harriett and Louis Goodloe of Hayti. Louis Goodloe's brother Daniel was the grandfather of Joseph W. Goodloe (1906-1990), who in 1968 succeeded Asa Spaulding as President of North Carolina Mutual, steering the company to its $1 billion insurance-in-force level in 1971, making it the first black-managed company in America to achieve the distinction. |
