Abstract/Description: Topics covered include the Selma to Montgomery March, and the impact of the civil rights movement in Durham. Ryan, who is white, grew up in the South but was living in Willamette, Illinois during the 1960s with her husband and seven children. She traveled south to Mississippi and Alabama to assist with civil rights activities. In 1970, she moved to Durham to attend North Carolina Central (studying health education), and stayed for over 35 years.
